Pavel Havlicek is a Czech-American fine art and fashion photographer. Born and raised in Prague, his passion for the medium began in childhood when his parents gifted him his first camera. Initially inspired by the atmospheric beauty of his native city and the people around him, he spent his youth consumed by the camera’s power to capture and redefine fleeting moments.
Driven by a longing for freedom under the oppressive Czechoslovak communist regime, he eventually fled the country, seeking political asylum in Germany and traveling extensively throughout Western Europe before ultimately settling in New York City. His imagery naturally reflects this life journey: the dark romanticism of a childhood spent behind the Iron Curtain, contrasted with the luminous, dreamy optimism of the path that followed. This constant interplay between shadow and light has become the defining signature of his visual style.
Throughout his career, he established a prominent international reputation in fashion and celebrity photography. His work has been featured in leading global publications and major brand campaigns, and he has photographed some of the world's most iconic personalities, including Beyoncé, Victoria Beckham, Olivia Wilde, Chloë Sevigny, Shakira, Sienna Miller, and Christina Ricci.
Today, working between Prague and New York, he focuses intensely on personal, fine-art photographic projects. This lifelong dedication to the medium was recently honored with a prestigious solo exhibition of his work at the National Gallery Prague.
